Frequently asked questions (updated Tuesday, 2 May 2007)
1. I did not attend the Beatitudes School Parent Meeting last week and I need to sign-up for my 15 hours of festival work, is it too late?
Good news! Its not too late to sign up! The festival committee is gathering up additional information so we can update the volunteer list. We will be communicating an updated listing of volunteer positions in the near future.
2. How do I get service hours for the festival?
There are many ways that you can meet your 15 hour commitment for the festival
- There are 4 week-ends prior to the festival which require volunteers to assist in setting up the booths.
- There are 4 week-ends prior to the festival which require volunteers to sell raffle tickets before and after the Saturday and Sunday masses.
- If you work during the day and the idea of working 8 long hours on the Saturday and Sunday of festival just give you the heebeegeebees, why not ask some of your family members to help? If Grandma, Auntie, and Mom worked 5 hours each on Saturday afternoon supporting one of our food booths - you've earned your 15 hours in one day while having fun and meeting other festival volunteers!
- We still need food booth captains! You and another parent can team up to co-captain a food booth - Work 5 hours each day for the 3 days of the festival and WahLa -- 15 hours met.. *** Disclaimer *** Captaining a food booth is not going to be an easy job and may actually require you to work more than the 15 hours if you're a school parent. However, time flies when you are having fun and couple that with the fact that anyone interacting with Beatitudes School will benefit from this Festival should also give you some encouragement to take on this exciting position!
- Assist on Sunday night and on Monday for tearing down what took many days to setup!
3. Can I ask my child to help volunteer and also receive service hours?
Anyone can volunteer, but in order to receive service hours, your child must be at least 18 years of age.
4. What are the other ways I can help to make this year's Festival more successful? Can one person really make a difference?
One person, can indeed make a difference! Here's some ways you can help make this year's Festival successful:
- Help the Festival committee get festival sponsors
There are approximately 28 game and food booths. To help defray costs, booth sponsorhips are available for $300 per booth. If we get all booths sponsored, that's $8400. To give you some perspective, we only had 3 sponsors last year.
This year, we will look into the possibility of opening up 4 sponsorship slots at $500 each to help us defray the cost of printing raffle tickets. In return, the raffle ticket sponsors will get their business information printed on the back of each and every printed raffle ticket.
We need sponsors at the Corporate level - $2,500
We need sponsors at the Gold level - $1,000
We need sponsors at the Silver level - $500
- Help the Festival committee acquire items that we can use for our raffle, silent auction and white elephant events.
This might be a good time to check into donating Christmas/birthday/anniversary/Just Because presents that are in great condition and you just did not care for that Red Coach purse. Rather than let it sit in your closet, donate it and get a tax deduction out of it!
- Help the festival committee save money! Contact the Festival Co-Chair for details. Her email is: festivalchair2007 at sbcglobal dot net ** Note: You have to substitute @ for the word at, . for the word dot
5. Can I attend any of the planning meetings, just to see what's going on or to offer suggestions?
Absolutely! Anyone with an interest in the Festival is more than welcome to attend. Upcoming meeting dates and agenda are posted on this blog.
6. I still have other questions and they are not answered here. Who do I contact?
Please call the School Office at 562.943.3218 and ask for Cecile Guerra's number.
