Teaching Through Experience
Mrs. Alicia Mendibles Vaca is the founder and director of the award winning “Paso de Oro” dance company. As an accomplished dancer and instructor, she studied under the director of Lily Aguilar and Maria Quiroz and shared the stage with accomplished artist such as Linda Ronstadt, Lalo Guerrero, Mariachi Cobre and Mariachi Sol de Mexico. A student of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM). Mrs. Alicia creates and designs all original dance company costumes and freelances in the fashion industry. It is from her personal experience and training that encourages the vision and strength to continue promoting self worth and cultural pride in her heritage through numerous performances given by “Paso de Oro” dance company.

Steps of Gold Dance Studio

Steps of Gold promotes and establishes three core values: Courage, Character and Commitment. The courage to perform, the character to respect others and the commitment to work as a team. The studio provides the instructors the necessary resources to incorporates traditional techniques as well as dance.

For over 10 years, Ballet Folklorico Paso de Oro (Steps of Gold) has been performing for audience throughout California and other areas. With dancers ranging in age from three years old to adult, Paso de Oro set out to entertain culturally diverse communities by celebrating tradition and a rich cultural heritage. The numerous awards and competition trophies that Paso de Oro have earned prove that they have what it takes to bring out the best dancer in any student. Paso de Oro was founded in Los Angeles in 1994 under the direction of Alicia Mendibles-Vaca. (The repertoire is centered on the regional dances of Mexico and
Latin Jazz ranging from traditional to competorary dance. Each dance is uniquely different and celebrates a culture that is alluring, full of color and full of life. The focus of each class at Paso de Oro is the student. Dancers from Los Angeles and Orange County are eagerly drawn to Paso de Oro for the quality of dance instruction. These students dedicate themselves to working hard because they know they have talented instructors that love to dance. The words courage, character and commitment are in integral part of each dance lesson. The student’s reward is knowing that he or she can reach his or her goals and they also receive the satisfaction of delivering an award-winning performance with their dance troop.
